At the Laboratory of Neuropeptide Receptor, many novel á-conotoxins acting on diverse muscle and neuronal nicotinic receptors have been designed, synthesized and analyzed in respective binding and electrophysiology assays. The first X-ray structure of á-conotoxin in complex with its biological target has been solved jointly with Smit (partner 1) and Sixma (partner 2). New proteins have been isolated from snake venoms, including post-translationally modified proteins with the changed potency and target selectivity. The main task of the group within the project is a search of new protein toxins and design of peptide neurotoxins acting selectively on diverse Cys-loop receptors using experimental, docking and molecular dynamics approaches.
