Regulon is a Biotech SME conducting state-of-the-art research in the fields of nanotechnology and has been one of the pioneering companies to work with SFV vectors in the field of gene therapy (having used one SFV-based product in a phase I clinical study in cancer). Regulon contributes to the Neurocypres consortia by offering the Semliki Forest Virus (SFV) expression system for the production of cys-loop receptors. The SFV system can be specifically applied for the expression of membrane proteins, which, despite being targets for >70% of current drugs are largely under-represented in public structure databases. Indeed this system has been successfully employed in the MePNet consortium mediating the expression of 100 therapeutically interesting G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). More than 95% of the GPCRs were expressed in Semliki Forest virus-infected mammalian cells evaluated by immunodetection and some 60 GPCRs were expressed at structural biology compatible levels.
