University of Patras was founded in the city of Patras in 1964. It is the third largest University in the country and the fastest growing one, with 18,500 undergraduate students. Today, its twenty-two Departments with a large number of sectors and consequently a great range of disciplines reflect a balanced academic environment. The Department of Pharmacy was founded in 1977 and has 21 faculty members and 5 technicians.

The Research Group applies NMR Spectroscopy, X-ray Crystallography and Biomolecular Simulation to study the conformational properties, the dynamics and the Structure-Activity Relationship of peptides, proteins and protein/peptide-protein complexes. The research interests of the group are also focused on the bacterial expression of native or uniformly labeled proteins and the engineering of polypeptides and proteins. Structural Bioinformatics are applied in the design and evolution of peptide or peptide-like chemical libraries for virtual screening and structure-based design of biologically active molecules. Technologies and methods in use: (a) powerful computational systems for Protein Structure Determination, Molecular Dynamics and Docking Simulations, (b) facilities for protein overexpression/purification, labeling (15N, 13C) and analysis (NMR, Mass & UV-vis/Fluorescence Spectrometry, HPLC etc.), (c) crystallization and crystallographic analysis of proteins.
