EMBL is one of the foremost molecular biology researches and training centres in Europe and the Mouse Biology Unit is at the forefront of using conditional an other state-of-the art transgenic techniques to address questions of relevance to the treatment and diagnosis of human disease. The institute hosts advanced transgenic, bacterial recombineering, and mouse phenotyping core facilities that will be critical to the success of the proposed project.

The Gross laboratory will work closely with Bregestovski (partner 9) and Smart (partner 11) to produce and characterize transgenic mice carrying BioSensor-Cys-loop receptor fusion proteins. Several innovative transgenic technologies will be used in this project, including bacterial recombineering to produce transgenic mice carrying intact genomic sequences carrying receptor fusion proteins under the control of their endogenous promoter, recombination-mediated cassette exchange (RMCE) to insert large (>100 kb) single-copy transgenic fragments at specified genomic locations, and X-linked transgene insertions to allow imaging of sparsely labelled neurons in mosaic females. The group will work closely with the Transgenic and Recombineering Core Facilities at EMBL to execute the proposed research. Next partner >
